About Plan Architecture

Founded in 2014 by principal Dan D’Agostino, AIA, Plan Architecture is an award-winning, client-forward, full-service architecture firm located in Bergen, New Jersey, less than an hour from Midtown Manhattan. The firm is frequently hailed as a "hidden gem" by its sophisticated clientele, which comprises celebrities, Broadway luminaries, and prominent figures in the creative industry.

Plan Architecture designs for commercial and residential clients, with a special focus on singlefamily, custom homes in the tri-state area. Delivering luxurious, functional architectural solutions that honor both the client and their site, Plan Architecture has been recognized with a coveted AIA Gold Medal for a mixed-use structure designed for Lower Manhattan; is a Luxe Red Award winner, and has received multiple “Best Of” awards on Houzz. The firm has had recurring star appearances on NBC’s series George to the Rescue, helping deserving families and communities in need get a fresh start with transformative home renovations.

With a team of 25, making it the largest boutique firm in the area, Plan Architecture has an elevated level of service and an integrated, process-oriented approach. Beyond architectural design, the firm offers a full range of services, including feasibility analysis, programming, master planning, interior design, renovation, alterations, additions, bidding and negotiation, construction administration, and concierge/owner’s representative services. This continuous, smooth support of the client throughout the design process is what truly sets Plan Architecture apart. “In developing this system, we might have one person in charge of, for example, zoning, but we also have a lot of cross checking,” says Dan. “My concept for building this company isn’t 1+1 is 2; it’s that 1+1 is a 10,” says Dan. “We are able to do things faster and way more accurately due to our expertise and breadth of services.”

In 2018, Dan launched an in-house, full-service interior design firm–Plan Interiors–to even better serve clients’ needs. From furniture to color palettes to lighting, Plan’s interior design team excels at creating stylish, functional, and unique solutions for a living environment that further enhances the architecture. “We’re all-inclusive, with interior design, as well as exterior design and landscape design,” says Dan. “You don’t have to hire someone else to plan landscaping or backyard design.”

Always staying ahead of the curve, Plan Architecture uses game-changing technology, including 3D renderings and to-scale, photorealistic imaging so that clients can visualize their project being brought to fruition. “We use experiential, cutting-edge technology,” says Dan. “The way that we lean into 3D design, in the way no architectural school, no other firm is doing. Designing in three dimensions simply makes projects better.” Another innovation is that clients can walk through a life-size floor plan, projected digitally.

Plan Architecture’s team integrates their designs into a structure’s surrounding spaces, informed by angles of the sun and desired views. “Without light there is no architecture,” muses Dan, “so we literally start our conversations with clients about the natural light and the topographic characteristics of the site,” says Dan. “For example, where will the sunrise hit the home? Where do you want the light to move across the home as the day progresses? Architecture is a play of light on surfaces.” No matter what the project, Dan and his team seek to harmonize with the environment to create the most inspiring spaces. The firm’s precision, cohesive approach, and passion for turning clients’ visions into reality all make working with Plan Architecture an experience like none other.
